The sea of Galilee was noted for having storms blow up suddenly without warning. It is still that way today. Mark gives us the Bible account of a storm on that sea which caused fear to the disciples in a small boat. If you read Mark 4:35-41, you get the complete account. Jesus tells the followers, “Let us pass over unto the other side.” When the Master tells us we are going to the other side, that means we are going to make it there and we aren’t going to drown! But his disciples became so scared they went into panic when the violent storm came up and waves were coming into their boat.

The Word of God said it was a great storm and of course humanly speaking, the disciples had every right to fear instant death. But strangely Jesus was in the far end of the boat asleep on a pillow. The disciples ran to him shouting, Master, Master, wake up. We are about to perish, we are going to drown and you act as if you do not care. That was a terrible accusation to make, but they were only human and we are quick to forget his promises. He had said, Let us go to the other side, and being God, he would keep that promise.

Jesus simply stood up, rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace be still.” The wind ceased and there was a great calm. He said unto them, “Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith?”

If you are a Christian there will be far too many times when you cannot or will not exercise enough faith in the Savior who paid such a high price to redeem you. Although I am a Christian there have been many times I have been ashamed of my own shortage or lack of faith. We need to use our faith daily and it will become stronger from the exercise!

Jesus, who never lies to us, calmed that stormy sea, He made blinded eyes to see. Jesus cured the leprosy of Naaman, lifted Lazarus from the grave. Jesus stood still on the Jericho Road, gave sight to Bartimaus and saved his soul and made him whole.
