When God Was At His Best

Rev. A. J. Ogden

Frankly, none of us mere human beings are capable of knowing, “The Best of God.” We know that God is always perfect and we do not understand perfection because we have never been there. As Paul would say in Romans 3:10, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.”

But in my little imperfect mind I often try to think of things God has done, that I for a moment would think, now that is “The Best of God.” But it is not long before I think of something I would consider greater. It’s beyond my understanding. Surely the best of God is the fact that He is eternal, He has always been there. Then I think, no, perhaps the “Best of God” was when He created the universe, when He hung the stars in place and made all the galaxies. Yes, that was great.

Then my little mind goes back to when He stood out on nothing, made earth with all the seven seas, and made every animal and creeping thing. Was that the “Best of God?” No, perhaps not, as wonderful as that was, it might not have been the “Best of God.”

Perhaps the best of God was when He reached down, picked up a clod of dirt to make Adam, the first man. But what could be any greater then when He put Adam to sleep, did surgery under Adam’s arm, took out a rib and made a beautiful lady like Eve for a help mate?

But other things were mighty great, like how He made all the cows on a thousand hills, floated Noah’s ark of safety during the flood. That was great, but maybe it was not the “Best of God.”

It seems to me the best of Him happened at Calvary when He hung on the old rugged cross to save Hell bound sinners. That surely must have been Jesus at His Best.

To the thief on the cross, the best of God must have been the word of Jesus, Luke 23:43, “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in paradise.” That was wonderful!

But to me personally, “The Best of Jesus” was when He saved my sinful soul, took me off the road to Hell, and put my feet on the road to heaven! He died in your place, rose again, is seated at the right hand of God, and ready to save you to if you will repent of your sin and trust Him now. Then you will believe the “Best of God” was when He saved you. I hope you’ll experience the “Best of God” right now.
