(Tune – Love Lifted Me – p. 441) (Words by Pastor Jim Byrd)
Vile and wretched, filled with sin, guilty without a plea Not a spark of good within, only impurity But the God of grace and love purposed to save my soul. Sent His Son to rescue me and make me whole.
Chorus: Christ died for me; Christ died for me; O blessed Sacrifice, Christ died for me. Christ died for me; Christ died for me; O blessed Sacrifice, Christ died for me.
Coming from His throne above, the Son of God was made, In our likeness, without sin, for those who from Him strayed; By His blood and righteousness, justice was satisfied; Bearing all our sinfulness, the Savior died. (Chorus)
O what free and matchless grace that He my sin would bear; Jesus gave His life for me, mercy beyond compare! Since the Savior shed His blood, and put away my blame; I will live forevermore, O praise His Name! (Chorus)

Of all who stand in Christ (washed in His blood, clothed in His righteousness), and who believe in Him for all salvation, the Bible says that God “hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities” (Psalm 103:10).
MY SHAME AND MY CLAIM
My sinnerhood is both my shame and my claim. By that I mean that as a great sinner whose sin is against God and against His mercy, grace, light and love (and continues to do so), this is my great shame. It is a reality for which I hang my head. But it is also my claim. By that I mean that this is who Christ came into the world to save. Were I not a sinner, I would not need a savior. The fact that I am a sinner shows my need of Him as my Savior. Christ died for the ungodly and came to seek and to save the lost. I have no other ground upon which to stand and yet this is also the only ground I can stand and receive His salvation. When I think of my sins, I weep and lament my condition; but then my tears of shame are turned to tears of joy for Christ put away my sins by the sacrifice of Himself. -- Pastor Gary Shepard
BE YE THANKFUL
“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful” (Colossians 3:15). I am saddened when I think of the myriads of people who will meet today with religious zeal, in earnestness and sincerity, and they will listen to useless, graceless, Christless sermons. They will be admonished about morality, human kindness, loving your neighbor and living by the golden rule. They will not, however, hear of God’s free grace to the undeserving or of the forgiveness of sins through the blood of Christ. Be thankful that God has been pleased to put you where you can hear the undiluted Word of the Lord, where you can listen to the sweet message of mercy for the vile, grace for the sinful, righteousness for the unrighteous and the full forgiveness of sins through the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. BE YE THANKFUL! —Pastor Jim Byrd
THE LORD WILL WAIT
And therefore will the LORD wait, that He may be gracious unto you, and therefore will He be exalted, that He may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for Him. (Isaiah 30:18)
The Lord will wait in this verse does not mean that God’s purpose and work is delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. It is not that God’s plan is out of its proper order, because God is still working all things after the counsel of His own will. God’s purpose and works are right on time as He has determined before the foundation of the world. The Lord will wait in this verse does not mean that God is waiting on men to accept Him and do their part. Christ is not now in heaven begging and waiting on sinners to receive Him. He is in heaven working out the timing of His sovereign will and purpose.
The Lord will wait refers to the fact that God has determined a point in time when He would send His Son into the world to accomplish the redemption of His people, and that time is God’s time – “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons” (Gal. 4:4-5). Christ had to come in time because God’s mercy towards His chosen people must be founded upon justice satisfied – “that He may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment.” The righteousness of God had to be established in God’s time by Christ for His people.
This time was not in the days of the prophet Isaiah, but it was sure to come later (in God’s time). It was the hope and assurance of God’s chosen people even in Isaiah’s day – “blessed are all they that wait for Him.” This waiting of God’s people describes their faith in His promise to send Christ into the world to accomplish their salvation. Believer’s today look back on the time of Christ’s death and the righteousness He established for us. We also wait in faith for His return to gather His people unto Himself and to judge the wicked. All of this waiting, then, has to do with the promises of God that have been and will be fulfilled in God’s appointed time through the Lord Jesus Christ. – Pastor Bill Parker
