As I move into the sunset years of my life, I’m very prone to think about a good number of “might have beens.” I mean, just wonder what kind of difference it would have made to do it all different. There seems to be an endless number of things that I could do a little better if I had it to do all over again. You know, “The room for improvement is the world’s biggest room.”

But we don’t get but one chance. We won’t get another shot at it so I must be content to let all the bygones be gone and use the rest of my life in a productive way to glorify Christ. Yes, pondering all those “might have beens” is such a futile pastime. When we do look back it should be for the purpose of learning how to improve self for the future. If we study our past just a little we might learn how to a void certain pit falls and dangers we never saw before.

Surely, you and I make mistakes because we are human beings and we would make a few more if we could start over again. But Matthew 6:33 is God’s advice,” But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness: and all these things shall be added unto you.” Put God first, others second, and self last.

If we are still tempted to worry about all the things that “might have been,” remember this, things could have been worse and not better. You have probably had some difficult times but just think how bad it would have been if you had been born blind, lame, halt, or a helpless invalid for life. Just think if there was not a Saviour to seek and to save all who will come to Him in repentance. It could be worse. What if you had burned up in a fire? What if you had died before now and gone to Hell? God watches over us.
