Q: When did you feel called to pastor the Edinburg campus?
A: About three years ago, the Lord placed his calling in my heart to plant a church. I started praying for where he would have us to go, and after some time I began to have a longing for the people of Edinburg. During the past three years, the Lord has done so much in my life and in my wife Linda’s life to prepare us for this church plant, and he is still graciously working in us today. Planting Logos Community Church Edinburg has been one of the greatest and most challenging joys of our life thus far.
Q: What was the timeline for the launch?
A: We did an “interim” launch in January, where we met at the McAllen campus at 5:30 p.m. This was a good and necessary starting place because planting a new church is a huge transition, and it is much easier to transition from the “familiar”. We began to pray for our own space and it wasn’t too long before our generous God gave us the Edinburg Boys and Girls Club as our first official new home. We had our first service there in April and meet weekly at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Q: How can we as congregations in McAllen and Harlingen pray for and support the Edinburg campus?
A: I would like for you to pray for God’s will and favor on our efforts and on our outreach to the Edinburg community, as well as for the courage and resources to continue to do the hard things that must be done for the work in God’s kingdom.
Q: How have you see God at work among your congregation as you have planted the church?
A: We have already been blessed with one salvation and have three upcoming baptisms! Last Friday we conducted our first mission outreach to the Edinburg Police Department and the Lord provided 125 BBQ plates that we gave away in the love of Jesus to the officers and staff. We also fed over 35 passers by, most of whom were families. It felt so good to give the food away, with no strings attached, in the precious name of the King of kings.
Q: What are your dreams for the future of the Edinburg campus?
A: I see Edinburg much like a general who looks at a map and plots the enemy positions; Satan has too many flags on too many hills in the community of Edinburg, and by God’s power and his grace we are going to take them all back in the name of Jesus Christ — one hill at a time!
