The World's Applause Or God's Approval
THE WORLD’S APPLAUSE OR GOD’S APPROVAL? Rev. A.J. Ogden
Negative news flows like a river deep and wide in America today. It is popular; it sells many newspapers and keeps radio and TV busy. Sin and wickedness is popular because people enjoy reading the bad things. Wickedness is almost as popular now as it was when God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for the same reason.
Many are wicked today because they want to be popular and have the praise of men instead of God’s approval. You can be a Hollywood star (shooting star) and the world will admire you even if you stay drunk, shoot dope, and live in adultery all the time. A godless society loves the worldly sinful life style. Shall we dare to be different? In First Thessalonians 4:1, we read, “Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound (flourish in good things) more and more.” Take your choice; you walk to please God or Satan, one or the other.
Sometimes we are ashamed to live Godly before all our wicked friends. But you will never in a million years win them to Christ until you live for Christ and set a Godly example. You cannot lead someone where you have not been.
We may never be popular with a wicked world system but we can be approved of God and please Him. Many times you will have to displease man in order to please God. Scripture warns us that if we live to get praise from all men we won’t have the praise of God. I would rather have the latter, wouldn’t you? So in closing, which do we desire, the world’s applause or God’s approval?
