Church of Sweden to stop clergy calling God 'he' or 'the Lord'

The Church of Sweden is urging its clergy to use gender-neutral language when referring to the supreme deity, refraining from using terms like "Lord" and "He" in favor of the less specific "God."

The move is one of several taken by the national Evangelical Lutheran church in updating a 31-year-old handbook setting out how services should be conducted in terms of language, liturgy, hymns and other aspects.

The decision was taken Thursday at the end of an eight-day meeting of the church's 251-member decision-making body, and takes effect May 20 on the Christian holiday of Pentecost. ...

There is plenty of fiery preaching in the Baptist church I attend on Sunday mornings (and Sunday nights, and Wednesday nights, and Friday nights, and every night of revival services, and missions conferences, and family conferences, and...), and there are a number of different preachers doing it. Maybe there would be a little more fire in the pulpit if there was an occasional flareup in the pews. When was the last time you hollered "amen" or "praise God" or "hallelujah" in church? Do you suppose God gets offended when someone gets a little bit excited about the preaching of His word? If so, you sure missed a lot of verses in your scripture reading 🤓

John Uk, I agree with you. Very good reasoning and observations, a discerning of the time we are now living in. My thoughts exactly as I watch and pray. So much like the days of Noah our Lord said to those asking what the signs of His coming would be.

You mentioned an elder Christian woman as your friend. Exactly how old was she? I ask because I am in a Sunday Class of elderly women and one man about my age. The ladies are 80,90 and one almost 100. They make me feel special and I laugh because they tell me I am just a baby when I talk about aging joints etc. They keep me amazed at attending church on walkers and canes and never complain except one lady today was upset because they had to take her car away from her. She’s been having small strokes and memory problems. Love being around them and hope I am a blessing to them as well!! We always seem to be on the same page with our beliefs (most of the time)

Hi Dolores, my Christian sister must be well into her 80's, a fine Christian, always singing to her Lord, full of knowledge, mature, and a great example. She also is good to be around, like your SS class; maturity counts for a lot, these folks are filled with love of Jesus.

John Uk, I agree with you. Very good reasoning and observations, a discerning of the time we are now living in. My thoughts exactly as I watch and pray. So much like the days of Noah our Lord said to those asking what the signs of His coming would be. And the times will only worsen as we draw closer, as a woman’s birth pains grow harder and more painful as her child is being birthed, Paul said. You mentioned an elder Christian woman as your friend. Exactly how old was she? I ask because I am in a Sunday Class of elderly women and one man about my age. I've noticed how fast things are changing, Dolores; and not for the better. It is quite saddening, to be honest. If the 20th century was bad, the 21st is much worse. I wonder if the Lord regards life on earth now just as he regarded the days before the flood, or the leadup to the fire and brimstone coming down from heaven upon Sodom, Gomorra, and all the cities of the plain.

Something big has to happen soon.

Fiery preachers? We don't have those in the UK, which is a great shame, really. Christians here read about preachers of the past, and lift them up as great examples, but I think they won't emulate them for one of two reasons:

1. They are too shy or self-conscious.
2. They believe that passionate preaching must come from the Holy Ghost.

The first one can be dealt with, because scripture says we are not given a spirit of timidity, but of power, love and a sound mind.

The second one is not easy. I have seen some clips of preachers in the USA (some as young as 10) and they have the swagger, the harangue, the lengthening out of words, almost a musical performance. Man can do that.

Cont. why after all these years it is being brought up. If it was still happening I could understand. By the way, I never worked again until my kids were in elementary school and I was a substitute teacher, mainly to get to know the teachers and keep up with them. That’s a whole different story, actually made me thankful I didn’t pursue my education to become a teacher 😁 my place was home raising my family.

Has anyone noticed how fast things are changing? The preachers are not as finery as they once were, some still are but most aren’t. It’s like the church is trying too hard not to offend and think like the world does. Our church still has old values and interesting thing is our pastor once invited Moore to speak at our church right after he refused to allow the 10 commandments to be taken down from the court house. I think he was a Judge at that time or someone that had influence in the judicial system. He may be a different person now than he was at 32. Saul became Paul and totally different person after his encounter with Christ. My son is a totally different person now than he was at age 16, after he had an encounter with Christ and he was not even attending any church at the time! He has an amazing testimony. Never, ever give up praying for your loved ones. My dad, in a nursing home finally gave his life to Christ three months before he got sick and died at 84 years old. I was age 17 working my first job when I was harassed by the manager who was married with 3 children. The other women thought he was cool so I never told them what he was doing to me. All the details of the harassment but I did tell my mother and she wasn’t surprised when I got fired. So I am not excusing wha

Luke 3:22 KJV

Scripture contains approximately 170 references to God as the “Father.” By necessity, one cannot be a father unless one is male. If God had chosen to be revealed to man in a female form, then the word “mother” would have occurred in these places, not “father.” In the Old and New Testaments, masculine pronouns are used over and over again in reference to God.
Jesus Christ referred to God as the Father several times and in other cases used masculine pronouns in reference to God. In the Gospels alone, Christ uses the term “Father” in direct reference to God nearly 160 times. Of particular interest is Christ’s statement in John 10:30: “I and the Father are one.”

""The Church of Sweden is urging its clergy to use gender-neutral language when referring to the supreme deity,""

The Church of Sweden does not KNOW God!!!

Satanic Liberalism destroys the church of Sweden.

Jude:10 But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.
11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core."

May the Lord rebuke them.
