BAGHDAD, Iraq - A suicide truck bomber struck a market in a predominantly Shiite area of Baghdad on Saturday, killing at least 105 people among the crowd buying food for evening meals, police and hospital officials said. The death toll made the attack one of the deadliest single bombings in the capital since the 2003 U.S.-led war.
The attacker was driving a truck carrying food when he detonated his explosives, destroying stores and stalls that had been set up in the busy outdoor Sadriyah market, police said, giving the casualty toll.
Officials said 105 people were killed and more than 225 wounded as nearby hospitals were flooded with victims from the blast, Reuters reported. Many were driven to the hospitals in pickup trucks and lifted onto stretchers while several men helped overwhelmed medics by holding plastic drips....
