Correct Neil - Prof Edmunds said: "It makes you wonder what they would have achieved if they'd have carried on, and the Romans hadn't taken over and put a stop to things."
So in future will people look back and say "It makes you wonder what the west would have achieved if they'd carried on, and the Moslems hadn't taken over and put a stop to things"?
PS: What's to say Noah didn't use power saws and battery drills to put the Ark together?
I was in California early last month & visited a pumpkin patch one evening in San Jose. There was a reasonable sized snake in the parking lot, seems it had come out of one of the loads of pumpkins. Interesting trick or treat....
Mark asks "Then why did Paul say "I thank God that I speak in tongues more than any of you"
Paul was sent to the Gentile nations - it seems rather obvious that he would have used this gift extensively to preach the gospel in the many different lanuguages and dialects used in the countries he visited.
Why else would the Holy Spirit introduce such a gift? Just for fun maybe? No, each and every gift has a practical use; babbling gibberish benefits no-one and anyone older than two should have figured this out by now.
Al-taqqiya = his swearing is meaningless. I wonder what government secrets such a senator will be privy to? No doubt CAIR etc will regularly pump him for all he is worth.
Yeah, you can call from a plane but the reception is a bit lousy.... only works if you are over a built up area (ie cell phone tower somewhere below) or flying fairly low.
The only reason to ban such calls is the annoyance factor (and I agree with this ban), interference with equipment is a myth.
What about 'chirping and peeping' then? And how is it that people manifestly without the Holy Spirit can speak in the exact same 'tongues' as the average Pentis do?
Sorry, but it just doesn't appear to stack up. But it's nice you enjoy it anyway.
So what are you like at drinking poison and handling Death Adders? C'mon, don't chicken out with the easy stuff..... be a blessing to someone else for a change and heal everyone at your local hospital.
But who cares anyway.... there will always be some men more evil than others, no need to let it concern us or cause us worry in any way. They will be dealt with.
IKEA stuff is not ugly (well most of it) just a different theme to what most Americans are used to. Similarly some American furniture is ugly (as are 90% of the cars, hence American buy imported + more reliable). Personally I don't mind either furniture style but American furniture tends to be big and thus only suited to bigger houses.
That said, none of the IKEA stuff is very robust so the survey results are a little suprising.... maybe the Swedes still trust the company even if thier furniture falls apart after a couple of years? Either way doesn't auger well for the church in that country (depending upon what their defenition of church is also).
Mr Garrett has a point that some in Acts recieved the Holy Spirit after they believed. That is true.
He says "The KJV is the most accurate of all English Bibles." It is a very good translation but on this particular topic it fails the grade because the translators inserted the word 'unknown' as in "unknown tongues" where there is no such word in the original Greek texts.
Thus I hold them a good deal responsible for honest, well meaning believers like Victor being led astray into thinking that 'tongues' is a simplistic babbling sound rather than an actual language.
A similar case in Oz, this young guy was minding his girlfriends daughter and put her in the spin dryer for a couple of minutes because she wouldn't stop crying.
That's good, we should support US Airways! Perhaps they could install pig skin leather seats to further discourage terrorists from using their airline.
"The counterfeits are plenty, the compromise and deceit is plenty"
That is why it is only safe to stick to God's word. In the early church there were NO musical instruments used, once you go beyond what the bible tells us you are essentially doing your own thing. Even the introduction of the piano and the organ in the 1800's was quite controversial. Not that instruments aren't great inventions, but for use outside the church worship.
But it sounds like you have sold out to the god of this world and his fleshly entertainment and tribal beats so I doubt the idea of sticking to biblical example will appeal at all....
