But hopefully there are enough of us interested in history to check their attempts. Very funny!! Considering Baptist "anything" didn't start until the year 1521 it is amazing that your average Baptist can make a statement like this without sheer embarrassment. Immersion was an old Roman Catholic heresy from which they developed baptismal regeneration. Now giving baptism all this extra power and authority - it is no surprise some folks built a church out of it. Previous to 1521 and the anabaptist heresies which emerged at that time, nobody questioned infant baptism. I wonder how much of Baptist modern written history previous to 1521 is plagiarism?? Anabaptist (similar to Amish and Mennonites) although our church is independent, non-denominational. We believe in woman's headcovering, modesty of dress and speech, believer baptism upon profession of faith, headship order, as well as the trinity, Jesus as Lord and Savior, and full Biblical obedience (especially NT). Heaven and Hell are real places. Everyone will eventually spend eternity in one or the other. The early settlers, bound together by the Mayflower Compact, brought the thoroughgoing form of reformation to the New World. Puritans, who fled persecution in England, were a dominant force in the early settlement in New England and Virginia. They brought the religion and world view of Calvinism to America. The founding of educational, political, and ecclesiastical institutions in the seventeenth century was stimulated by this dominant influence. Presbyterians, Episcopalians, and Congregationalists were all part of the movement By the middle of the eighteenth century the reform was in decline. New England was facing the influence of Arminianism, Deism, and the roots of Unitarianism. At this time Jonathan Edwards lamented the shift of American culture away from its roots. The Great Awakening soon followed, flaming the dying embers of reform into a new fire, that swept through the colonies and the frontier. The Awakening was led chiefly by three preachers: Jonathan Edwards, John Wesley, and George Whitefield. Of these three Edwards and Whitefield were thoroughgoing Calvinists. Wesley was not. Up until I was seventeen my family most regularly attended a Baptist church, and we called ourselves baptists; but we moved a lot, and the Baptist churches in some areas we moved to were not scripturally sound. I have attended Brethren and presbyterian churches over the years, and now currently attend a presbyterian church. My doctrine doesn't really hold in all points to either of the denominations, either; because I hold to the TULIP doctrine, as many baptists do not, and I believe adult baptism is the correct form, as most prebyterians do not. I have tried to learn my doctrine from studying the bible and not from my church's creed. We have one who has been there for 20 years and has built a church that currently has about 40 members. We recently took another on for support." My brother in is southern Australia, north of Melbourne. They are IFB, but he hasn't said much about the Reformed influence. But it is a pretty cold country (to the gospel) from what I understand. Wolf said: "That al men dead in tresspasses ans sin and are totally depraved of any moral goodness whereby they can save themselves. Jesus paid the satisfactory justice for sin and meet God's demand for perfect righteousness. God justifies the sinner on the merits of Christ and his righteousness is imputed on the believing sinner." And this is what we do door to door. We present the Word of God. The Holy Spirit then leads us to go further, or leave the house. You can tell if they are under conviction and if you need to continue telling them how they need to repent. I have a question. How man Reformed think God saved them, but they have never repented? False professions happen throughout many circles. I follow Christ and his revieled word, Not any denomination of man. There is one God and one salvation. Our only hope is in the imputed finnished work of Jesus Christ. Paul spoke of the division in the letter to the Corintians, I follow Apollos and I follow Paul, there should be no man made devisions, which are but man's sinful nature, but the truth of scripture need to be followed with out the ditortions of man's opinion. I could see the problem with people who tries to "evangelize" the lost by almost forcing them to make a decision, or making them repeat a prayer, or any of these methods because in doing so it is more of man trying to "save" the sinner and there are many (not all) false professions because of these... On the other hand, however, I believe that Christians ought to be obedient to God's command in the great commission and be witnesses of Him... We have to be so consumed of God that our thoughts are just filled with thoughts about Him that telling people about Him is so natural (just like one having his thoughts filled with his favorite sport team that he cannot stop talking about them)... Salvation is not about praying, it is about believing and receiving. Don't waste your time my friend - the best arguments have been presented to them and yet they continue to trample the truth under their feet. If God were their Father, they would love the truth, but they don't. Therefore, the question is whose children are they? If you consider these arguments by the contrary effects of the truth, then you know who and what you are dealing with.
