If you're old enough, you might remember when cereal came with prizes inside. Remember the submarine? I don't think I've ever eaten a box of cereal so fast before. I couldn't wait to play with this huge sub and go on deep sea adventures and sneak behind enemy lines and survive depth charges. Then you pull it out of the box and it's a small bit of plastic and you have to use baking soda for it to work. And it doesn't work. I was crushed. Why? Because my childish expectations built up this toy so much that there was no way the box hid this adventure machine I had built up. My expectations did match up to reality.
And that is what people, for thousands of years have done with The Bible (God's Word). We see Israel in the Old Testament take God's Law and infuse their cultural identity in it - but fail to follow it. In the New Testament, we see the Pharisees add to and distort the Law - and thus distorted the view of who the Messiah would be. Post-Penacost we see people wanting to add to grace by faith - and works "righteousness" still infests our thinking even today.
But what is God's Law? Join Pastor John Samuel Barnett as he gives the answer from the One who not only wrote the Word, but IS the Word - Jesus Christ.
