“For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.” – Mark 8:35
Being a disciple of Christ definitely involves cross-bearing. But listen, bearing crosses also definitely includes resurrections! Did you hear that? I am absolutely convinced that Grace Life Church of the Shoals would not have the open doors of widespread ministry opportunities that God has given us if we had not carried some crosses throughout the years when we didn’t know what was going to happen.
Think about Joseph. Joseph carried a cross and ended up in a dungeon, forsaken and thrown away. But he honored God and became the mightiest man in the mightiest nation on earth just under Pharaoh. God sent a resurrection! Think about Daniel. Daniel as a teenage boy goes into Babylonian captivity, but he’s committed to be a true disciple. Daniel humbly and graciously appealed to the king to keep the Jewish laws and still try to achieve the king’s goals. Daniel had persecutions. Men were trying to trap him and find fault against him. He even ends up in the lion’s den. But God sent a resurrection! He became a great and mighty leader in Babylon, and the king even required all of Babylon to look to the God of Daniel.
So, remember God has crosses to bear, but He’s got resurrections coming. And, if you don’t get all the resurrections you think you ought to get in this world, you have a literal one coming for all eternity! You never know what God is going to do if you will try faithfully to carry your cross and honor the Lord. In this life, there are crosses to bear. But, hallelujah, there are also resurrections to come. God is good!
