I really liked how you stressed that we are to lay aside high thoughts of ourselves, convceit within ourselves, and to stop being so arrogant and to be Christlike. Helpful instruction in maintaining sexual purity in the Church Body and in the Believer's personal life. I would encourage any Pastor, Youth Pastor, anyone in Ministry to take notes from this valuable message and teach these moral truths to the Body of Christ. I was greatly blessed by this message.
“ Great Sermon! ” Thoughtful, wise, well done, spoken in an orderly manner. This is a faith building, encouraging sermon. I think this sermon would appeal to the layman and the critical thinker alike. A Glorifying sermon to Jesus Christ our Great Physician. Points out the fact that Christ healed persons with all standings in society. Outlining God's saving grace and comfort as being available to everyone.
“ Great Sermon! ” Leviticus 15's theme is the holiness of God and its incompatibility with certain physical things. The section deals with chronic imperfection in men and women, but why did sex, childbirth, make a person unclean? Because they are earthly, physical and are not holy. Jesus tells us how to be clean. Our priorities may need to be rearranged. God looks at us and says, "You know I'm not first in your life. I'm somewhere down the line. The older we get in our Christian life, we realize there are things that need to be cut away. Sexual impurity is not to be located among the people of God. Leviticus is teaching us we must be pure. The theme of the book can also be stated, "Cleanliness is next to godliness." To the Corinthians, Paul said "Flee sexual immorality." To Timothy, Paul said, "Flee the evil desires of youth," pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace along with those who love the Lord out of a pure heart." We're to be like Joseph, who fled from Potipher's wife. What does God want to do? He wants to spare us from the pain from broken relationships, unwanted pregnancies, distrust, blows to self-esteem, sexual addiction, physical and sexual violence. Sexuality is a gift from God and He told us it has to be maintained in a pure way. Only through Jesus Christ cleansing am I saved.
“ Wonderful Sermon! ” Davies reminds us that this fruit of the Spirit is something believers already have and do not need to ask for. Then he says: " So why don't we have it? Because I'm a sinner and I quench the Spirit and I grieve the Spirit. Not that God is impotent but that we decide to turn our eyes away from God." He notes that a lack of self control manifests itself in many forms (anger, envy, covetousness) but he spends most of the time discussing covetousness. He notes: " Have you ever scared yourself when you realized this thing is running me. I'm not in control any more. As a Christian, it doesn't have to be that way. We choose to have it that. If we're honest, we say, I may not like the sin, but I'm not ready to have God take it away from me. We may have a few victories here and there. If we're not serious about it, soon it's back." He quotes John Calvin:
"He who allows his sinful propensity to rule uncontrolled will know no end to his lusts." I And John Piper: "A Christian hedonist--my pleasure is in God and God alone." "You're not your own, you're not your own, you're not your own, you were bought with a price. Therefore glory God in your body," (I Cor. 6:19). "We need a daily reminder of who we are, who God is where we're going ... We don't have to be enslaved to anything but Jesus."
“ Good Sermon! ” This sermon was a good reminder to me to spend time with God. I liked the way he presented this notion of spending time with God. Also, Dr. Richard Davies here notes that we ought to spend time praising God and meditating on God's greatness. And he reminds us that we cannot add anything to the atonement of Christ. Leviticus is probably not the most popular book among New Testament Christians, but "all Scripture is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction..."
“ Good Sermon! ” A gentle reminder that love isn't always so profound as we make it -- love expresses itself in simple things like not making fun of someone or revealing secrets. "Self is not the Christian center ... If Christ would treat us the way we're tempted to treat each other, where would we be? ... We should go out of our way to keep our word ... We're born selfish, hateful and hating one another, but the fruit of the Spirit is love."
