Corporal Punishment Under Attack Even though there are verses in the Book of Proverbs (called Míshlê (מִשְלֵי) in Hebrew) which favorably mention the rod (shebet שֵׁבֶט) as a form of corporal punishment, namely Proverbs 10:13, Proverbs 22:15, Proverbs 23:13-14, Proverbs 26:3, and Proverbs 29:15, corporal punishment is being attacked in society as a form of "child abuse." This attack on corporal punishment is even present in apostate churches like the PCUSA as well. While apostate churches can attack corporal punishment as "abusive", they can condone abortion as a "woman's right to chose". If we do not rightfully exercise the rod as a form of discipline, then we will produce generations of rebels.
