Absolutely Great Sermon! God's people would not be destroyed if they rightly divided His word, studied to show themselves approved, and prepared themselves to give a defense of the Gospel that saves.
This message is necessary if we are going to win souls to Christ.
True Jews Thank you for your kind comments. The true Jews are just that, JEWS. This gets lost in the replacement theology crowd. However, it is also lost in the Israel NOW crowd who see this nation as the renewed Israel of End Times. Both extremists are incorrect, in my view. If God does not keep faith with Jews then how can we expect He will keep faith with us? This means that He is not faithful and therefore is not God! The current Israel was founded, and still governed, by atheists, socialists, terrorists who will attack everyone who disagrees with them. They attacked the USS Liberty to protect their surprise attack 1967. The upshot is: follow the Scriptures and not tradition or current desires. Anyway, this is a minority view rejected by most since it violates their particular orthodoxy views.
JUDAISM AND ESCHATOLOGY A brief look at role of Judaism in the world and end-time events. Who the true spiritual Jews are, and no, we're not talking replacement theology.
Great Sermon! Thank you for your kind comments and continued listening. Sometimes I speak from man's perspective even as the Bible does. God does not think since He knows all and does not change His plan or mind; yet, the Bible depicts this viewpoint from Man's perspective just so we can understand the concept being presented. God is never caught off-guard. This way of speaking is a means of putting present tense events (all events to God are present tense) into past and future tenses for us to understand.
Great Teaching! I've been thinking--”Danger, Will Robinson, danger!”--man does not like his God-given name because it defines him as a being that is tied to the earth. This name reminds him that he is not the Elohim or even a god. So, he is always (like at the tower of Babel) trying to change his name, that which defines him, to a name that means he is more than man, to a name that's great. But there is only One Who has the right to change our name, the One Who has the Name that is above all names: the Lord Jesus Christ, the One that named man.
Umm...your “instant language day” comment/joke made it seem like God was caught off guard and had to tweak His plan, and I know from your other messages that you don't, in even a teeny-weeny way, believe that.
Thank you, Dr. Sanders, for making me think about things that I'd accepted without giving any thought about it and hadn't realized that I had.
Great Teaching! My speculation :-) when I came to this part in Genesis: Oh, I see. Cause he had to bring an offering to God from the fruits of his labor, Cain just yanked something out of the ground, so to speak. (I thought of Malachi 1 where God said the priest were contemptuously serving/offering sacrifices to Him.) Abel, showing how he felt about God, was real careful about his offering. He brought to God the first--and the best of the first--of the “fruits” of his labor.
Question: Dr. Sanders, what is your source for “worthless” and “strength?” I've been looking and can't seem to find those meanings for the names Abel and Cain.
I didn't know, until I sat down and thought about it, because of eschatology being used as a big money maker, and the eschatological arguing, I had become rather end-time weary. I am so glad, Dr. Sanders, that I took a chance and “peeked behind” your end-time titles.
Great Teaching! Our Totally Sovereign God, Our Accuser, Our Flesh and Dispensational Premillennialism
Dr. Sanders, actually you need a title that's at least a million characters long to convey what you're teaching. :-)
The Fundamentalists I've recently finished reading two booklets by the late Pastor John E. Ashbrook that provide some insightful details about what took place within the Fundamentalist camp. They are “Axioms of Separation” and “The New Neutralism II.”
Great Sermon! There is certainly room for differences of opinion on this subject since the Bible makes the vague reference you quoted. I'll be happy to be with Him wherever. The understanding that we will live in Heaven in eternity future though is erroneous as the Bible clearly teaches we will live on a new earth with pilgrimage to the New Jerusalem regularly. What will we be doing? Bible does not mention anything specific which means we could not understand it in our present physical context. Thanks for your comment.
Maybe a Second or Two in Heaven,Yes? From this message and some previous messages in the series I have a better understanding about the physical aspect of our resurrected bodies and everlasting life on earth after the Lord's return, but find it hard not to think of our being in heaven if we die before His return. Thinking of this in light of the Lord's physical ascension into heaven (Acts 1:9-11), Stephen seeing Him in heaven (Acts 7:55-56), and Paul saying that to be at home in the body is to be absent from the Lord/to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Cor 5:6-8).
Dr. Sanders and My Mother So, as I'm listening to Dr. Sanders' questions I'm suddenly hearing my late mother's voice. The questions he's asking my mother would ask like this: “Who's telling you this?” “Where did they get their information?” “Why are they telling you this?” “Are they meaning the same thing when they use that word?” And she would say: “Just because they've written a book doesn't make them right.” I am remembering that even “learned” men, those we look to as being an authority/a scholar/a researcher, can believe stupid things and interpret information based on that belief. Thanks, Dr. Sanders, for this reminder.
Great Sermon! Insidious is correct. The more I study the moe I discover that we are little different than our ancestors proving the truth of the Bible, "nothing new under the sun".
