Should the elder have a reputation for being a bully or having a fond affection for money? This coming Lord's day, we will wrap up verse 7 by looking at the last two negatives (not pugnacious and not fond of sordid gain) qualities that shouldn't be present in a man who holds the office of elder or a potential elder candidate. We will then look at the godly characteristics (opposites: gentleness and contentment) that should instead govern an elder's life and relationships which emulates Jesus Christ, our loving Shepherd.
