A nadie le gusta pensar en lo negativo, y los discípulos de Cristo no eran la excepción; por eso se resistían a pensar en la muerte de Cristo. Él, sabía que su muerte era inevitable, y por largo tiempo se abstuvo de decírselo a sus discípulos. Cuando se los dijo, ellos evadieron esa realidad sin interesarse en comprenderla.
Esta evasión los condujo a la confusión, el pánico, la cobardía, el desanimo y la tristeza al ver a su Señor muriendo. Pero Él los había preparado para que soportaran. Por esto les prometió que no los dejaría huérfanos y les enviaría al Consolador, el Espíritu Santo.
Del capítulo 13 en delante de Juan encontramos esta promesa y la explicación de por qué era necesaria, cómo se cumplió y qué efectos produjo en los discípulos. Estos eventos difíciles de los discípulos reflejan y predicen nuestra realidad. Nosotros también necesitamos esa promesa.
