How many families have lived on earth? The apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 3:15 that every family in heaven and earth derives its name from the Father. That is correct because there is only one earthly family. The genealogies recorded in the Bible trace the history of the one human family descended from Adam through Noah and his sons to Abraham and all the way to the earthly heritage of Jesus. He is the head of a new family with no physical descendants, only spiritual ones adopted into God's family by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. In Genesis 11:10-32, we see the Lord's providence and precision in sovereignly directing the earthly line of our Savior so that He could fulfill all of the promises in the Scriptures starting with Genesis 3:15 and continuing with the covenant promises to Abraham and David.
