There are places where Satan has an unusually strong foothold. Pergamos was one of those places. On Sunday, we will continue our studies in Revelation - the church at Pergamum (Rev. 2:12-17). This church existed in an unusually corrupt city, "where satan's throne is." It was a church that stood fast, even in the face of the death of one of their members - Antipas. But there were some who were being corrupted by the surrounding culture. There they were, with all the right beliefs, but under the surface of their orthodoxy and commitment was being undermined through idolatry and the impurity it produces. Unfortunately, the church was reluctant to discipline them, so the Lord threatened to come and do it Himself. He calls them to repent for allowing their people to be corrupted from within.
