H.C. Questions 88-89 – Conversion: Dying to Sin, Living for God (part 1) – Sermon Outline Intro: Conversion is true repentance, the old, sinful self dying, and the new man in Christ rising. Need: Our new nature is always "coming alive" as we put to death the old man by grieving our sin, hating & forsaking it, in order to gladly live according to God and His will by doing good works flowing from true faith. Theme: Conversion is an inner transformation of ourselves from sinfulness to holiness in Christ.
1. We hate our sin and sinful nature and cultivate our new, holy affections. 2. Our old, sinful nature dies as we despise our sin that offends God and run from such sin. 3. Our new, God-given nature delights in God and desires to serve Him with good works. 4. Our good works flow from true faith in God, follow His law, and aim to glorify Him.
