Following Paul's declaration of the Lordship of Christ (Ephesians 6:5-9) he moves to prepare the Ephesian believers for future trials and temptation. He uses the figure of a Roman soldier comparing them to a soldier for Christ. He begins with a strong imperative "be strong in the Lord." Spiritual strength is also found in Old Testament figures like Joshua and David. Here, we see Paul's much-love phrase, "in the Lord."
