As we have been thinking about the better promises that Jesus minsters unto us, we come to the root of the whole matter. That root is purpose… Where do we find a purpose for our lives that is strong enough to sustain us? It is not hard to see that this same question is driving the chaos of the current culture wars… what do we exist for? Man's best answer is to be happy, to do whatever he wants. But this pursuit will always fail in the end, for we are made for more than this. We are made for more; we are made for God. It is in the pursuit of knowing God, that purpose is found, but it is not in our hand or power to do this. Our natural proclivity for rebellion against God defies our attempts at reformation. We need help and we need the better promises that Jesus built His ministry for us upon, so that in the pursuit of our passions and our joys, we are still aimed at our chief purpose.
