Evening Devotional 1/19/2025 Contemplation of My Sinfulness and God's Grace 1. When you sin, who do you blame? Did someone "make you angry", or did your heart respond in anger to something? Note what Jesus said in Matthew 5:21-2 about the offensive nature of our heart sin, and what he says in Matthew 5:27f about the outward activities of sin springing from the heart. How can I use this to stop my sin, and repent of it, before it comes to fruition? 2. How deeply do you need the Savior - only for what you do, or for who you are? Contemplate the necessity of Divine activity and power to change you. Think about what a mighty Savior you need to redeem you from your sin, and give thanks that He has given us such a Redeemer. 3. Consider the magnitude of God's grace. He saves sinners like us, who have nothing in us to attract Him. And consider what it would be like (and, in Heaven, WILL be like) to have an entirely pure heart. Let this spur you onward now in the pursuit of holiness. Think of the offensiveness of your sin before God, and the wondrous love of God toward you. Does my embarrassment end in repentance rather than denial? If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins AND to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I John 1:9
