Acts 14:21-28 – The Other Side of the Great Commission – Sermon Outline
Intro: The Church today emphasizes "Go!" in the Great Commission, but does it ever emphasize "Return!" or "Stay!" or "Appoint godly Elders in every church to build up the body of Christ?" Hardly ever.
Need: Fruit does not come by simply sowing seed, planting, then ignoring. Seedlings must be nurtured constantly, with great care, for the plant to mature & bear healthy, desirable fruit. So it is with the new Christian, who must be planted into Christ's body, the Church, and nurtured by the body and dedicated, loving leadership.
Theme: The Apostles were called to both plant and strengthen churches with a heart of love.
1. The Apostles retrace their journey to encourage the new churches and appoint Elders. (21-25)
2. The Apostles return to the Church in Antioch to report how God blessed their labors. (26-28) |
