We have looked more closely at the prophet Jonah and his reluctant trip to Ninevah in the past. This introduction to the minor prophet, Jonah, is not intended to focus so much on the story of Jonah, but rather to help us see how the story is connected to the prophet Nahum.
Jonah came first and prophesied judgment to Ninevah unless they repented. They repented and God relented. But within 50 years, they had forgotten their fear of the Lord and returned to their wicked and barbarous ways.
Nahum was sent next to prophecy the same message. The people of Ninevah had no regard for the word of Nahum. God exercised His righteous judgment upon Ninevah.
We are going to study these two books of the minor prophets (minor in the sense that not much of their ministry is recorded for us) as a whole unit...one connected and tragic story. The grace of God was embraced, for a while, then spurned, to their destruction.
