Christ as our kinsman redeemer is far superior to Boaz, for He gave His very life to ransom us, and He refused to rest until He had finished the work at Calvary!
Once Ruth asked Boaz to redeemer her, Naomi gave her sound advice: "Sit still until thou know how the matter will fall." Ruth had done all that she could. The work of redeeming her and Naomi was all in the hands of Boaz.
Naomi counseled Ruth to wait based upon Boaz's character, his ability, and his solemn promises to Ruth. To rest until Boaz had finished the redemption displayed faith in Boaz's power and his word of promise.
What a beautiful picture this is of how the Saints ought to rest in Jesus! For He has the right to redeem us, and He has the wealth and power to do so, which He obtained at the cross. Christ has also given His solemn word that He will redeem and rescue everyone who trusts in Him.
Christ said that He, not the poor sinner, does all the work of salvation. He proclaimed that the work that God expects of us is to believe on Jesus Christ.
It is hard to walk away from works righteousness and trust only in Jesus. It goes against fallen man's false religion. We naturally believe that we must work and sweat to earn the favor of God. Imagine if Ruth had responded to Boaz's promise that way - what an insult it would have been to the man!
Indeed, Naomi had urged Ruth to seek Boaz's redemption in order to find rest! So too our Redeemer offers us rest in His work and His righteousness!
Paul makes it clear: salvation comes only by faith in Christ's sacrifice and not by works. Hebrews warns us of the danger of refusing to enter Christ's rest by our unbelief.
