God created man in his own image If God condoned cruel and oppressive slavery, why would He also exalt the value of man? Gen_1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Gen_9:6 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. It doesn't make sense that God would create man in his own image so that men could enslave and oppress each other. If a Hebrew sells himself into slavery to a foriegner, he and his family can buy back his freedom from the foreigner. Leviticus 25:47-49 And if a sojourner or stranger wax rich by thee, and thy brother that dwelleth by him wax poor, and sell himself unto the stranger or sojourner by thee, or to the stock of the stranger's family: (48) After that he is sold he may be redeemed again; one of his brethren may redeem him: (49) Either his uncle, or his uncle's son, may redeem him, or any that is nigh of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; or if he be able, he may redeem himself. The Hebrew who sells himself into slavery must be treated as a hired worker Lev 25:53 And as a yearly hired servant shall he be with him: and the other shall not rule with rigour over him in thy sight.
