After hearing the news yesterday about the death of Dr. D. James Kennedy, I hastily called a number of people who I knew where in someway involved in his life and ministry. To a person, each one of them gave glowing reports about Dr. Kennedy's evangelistic fervor, sound reformed theology and kind and gentle demeanor. On yesterday, program Laura Bishop, Director of Development and Communications for Westminster Academy (the elementary school associated with Coral Ridge Ministries and started by Dr. Kennedy) spoke to us very candidly (from Dr. Kennedy's office) about how she personally was impacted by the life and minister of her pastor, D. James Kennedy.
This morning I spoke with Rev. Rick Phillips, Senior Pastor of Second Presbyterian Church Greenville, SC, and Board Member for Knox Theological Seminary. After hearing the announcement of Dr. Kennedy's retirement (a few weeks ago) Rick wrote a blog on Reformation21.org. entitled: “A Great Reformed Evangelist Retires”. During the program we make reference to some of the points in that blog. Additionally, Dr. Sam Lamerson, associate professor of New Testament at Knox Theological Seminary and Assistant Pastor at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church will join the conversation during the broadcast. He also has a blog about Dr. Kennedy's life and ministry on his blog (see www.drsamlam.com).
