Chapter 4 of Ruth focuses in on Boaz as he seeks to acquire Ruth as his bride. Boaz carefully plans to follow the law and yet redeem Ruth for himself. He initiates his day in court, summons the nearest kinsman to appear, sets up ten witnesses to validate the legal decision and then proceeds to make his case. Once the nearest kinsman backs out of the offer, Boaz wastes no time in publicly asserting to the witnesses his decision to redeem Ruth and to have the decision legally validated. All the people present assent to the decision and pronounce a blessing on Ruth's position in Israel, as well as Boaz' prosperity and posterity for all time. (His descendant ultimately would be the Messiah Himself)
