I. Jesus makes an astonishing claim (v. 6). II. The implications of Jesus’ claim are enormous. III. Many find Jesus’ claim to be a stumbling block. IV. We must all respond to Jesus’ claim. A. It requires a decision from each of us. 1) For some, to believe and accept (you’ve lost your way and know you are bankrupt) 2) For others, to share this with others because they truly believe it. 3) For all, we all need to believe it.
B. Rather than being offended, we should be jubilant and thankful.
C. Let us behold the kindness of our Lord. —This is an expression of God’s grace and kindness. We are lost and He came to show the way. Jesus is the way. —He shows us great patience. Notice how our Lord deals with the slow dull response of the disciples. He does not say, “If you haven’t figured it out yet, you’re on your own.” —Let us behold His gracious determination to save your soul. He is the way but is not silent and just sits back. We learn that no one seeks for God (Rom. 3) — has he not said, “I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice.” (10:16) —Let us behold the heart of the Father. He sent His Son to be the way so that lost sinners might come to Him.
