Hosea 8:5 Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast thee off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will it be ere they attain to innocency? How long are people going to act like this, worshipping false idols and turning away from God? When will they behave and act innocent again like little children? 6 For from Israel was it also: the workman made it; therefore it is not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces. God says you have made these golden calves and I am going to break them into pieces. Today archeologists find pieces of golden calves, never a whole one. The people back then got rid of them thru God's influence. Definition of an idol by Carl Jones: something that receives the worship that belongs to God instead. It could be your wife, kids, house, car, bank account…it doesn't have to be a stone image. Anything that takes the affection from you that belongs to God is an idol. 7 For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up. You reap what you sow.. This is where the old saying comes from. This verse says most of their crop will fail if they don't turn to and worship God. America today is getting hit from all sides. We see it in the news everyday. This will continue and get worse until we return to God and His ways. 8 Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein is no pleasure. There will be a time when Israel is swallowed up and taken in by other countries, but it won't be nice. This has happened. All the countries around Israel have persecuted them.
