The trumpet judgments are just that, judgments of God upon the world of the rebellious. The fifth trumpet of the text is different from the first four, which were natural and physical. The fifth is spiritual and demonic. The language is symbolic but graphic. This trumpet is a prelude to the final judgment because it is limited as to time (five months) and to scope (they cannot kill, they can only torment). It is also limited to those who have not God's seal in their foreheads. This trumpet teaches us that God will use Satan as His agent of judgment. It will be a terrible time of spiritual anguish for the unsaved.
