Tomorrow we will resume our series through Galatians.
The Jews of Paul's day, including many who professed faith in Jesus, loved the Law of Moses, but they didn't really understand its true purpose. They thought that they could be justified by keeping the law. They tried to compel Gentile Christians to come under the Law of Moses.
In Galatians 3:15-22 Paul shows that God's covenant with Abraham is the primary covenant which makes promises to those who believe. The Law of Moses which was added over 400 years later does not change the terms of the Abrahamic Covenant.
Paul explains that the purpose of the Mosaic Covenant was not to be a means by which men could justify themselves through obedience, but rather the Law was given so that men would see that we can only be saved by God's grace.
Please read Galatians 3 before coming to church (and if you have time you could also read Romans 4).
Come prepared to pay careful attention to God's Word. Our passage is not easy, but what God has to say about the gospel of promise is very important for all of us.
