In these verses Paul introduces himself and His message to the church in Rome. We see that his servanthood was central to his perspective of himself. We learn too why Paul without explanation declared himself an apostle and discover that he tied his message to the historic revelation brought by the prophets. What is obvious also is that both Paul and the prophets had Christ as the focus of their preaching. Paul then exults both the humiliation and the exaltation of Christ and we learn why this is important. Finally, Paul ties God's love for the Romans to his expectation of them living holy lives, which we see rests upon and flows out of the mercy and peace of God.
