Most people seem to have a tendency to think that when bad things happen to others it is because they have lost favor with God. This is very far from true in the life of a Christian. Paul is in prison in chains and he is writing to these believers to assure them that the things that have happened to him have actually been a good thing for the kingdom of God. We need to realize that we must decrease for God to increase, and so the diminishing of a life in the service of God does not mean that God has abandoned them, but more likely is using them for the furtherance of the Gospel.
