THE SEVEN EYES OF THE LORD PART 10: DEATH OF THE FORTY-TWO PRINCES TEXT: 2 Kings 10:12-14
Summary: The forty-two princes, representing the mingling of the house of Ahab with the house of David, finds a parallel in the church’s mingling with the world, and for both, God’s judgment is certain.
EXPOSITION:
I. THEY WERE DESCENDANTS OF AHAB’S HOUSE II. THEY WERE SYMPATHETIC TO THE CONTINUATION OF AHAB’S DYNASTY. III. THEIR JUDGMENT WAS CERTAIN.
APPLICATION:
I. AS THE PRINCES MINGLED THE BLOODLINE OF RIGHTEOUS DAVID WITH THAT OF WICKED AHAB, THE MODERN “CHURCH” HAS MINGLED HOLY THINGS WITH THE WORLD. A. The Principle. God’s way is not only best way, it's the only way. B. The Principle Applied. The worship of God is to be carried out, at least as much as we fallen sinners are capable of it, in God’s way.
II. AS THE PRINCES’ SYMPATHIES WERE FOR THE CONTINUATION OF AHAB’S DYNASTY, THE MODERN “CHURCH”S” AFFECTIONS ARE OFTEN WITH THE WORLD. A. The Principle. The population of much of the “church” today is more sympathetic to the continuation of the world’s system than it is to the advancement of God’s Kingdom. B. The Principle Applied. Much of today’s “church” is only a few years behind the world.
III. AS THE DEAT OF THE PRINCES WAS SHAMEFUL, SO WILL BE THE DEMISE OF THE SYSTEM MUCH OF THE MODERN “CHURCH” HAS BUILT. A. The Principle. Today’s “church” cannot continue as it is without a great purification. B. The Principle Applied.
