Today on the Youth Apologetics Training podcast we will begin looking at the Unification church and the teachings of the late Sun Myung Moon. A little history The Founder of the Unification Church was Sun Myung Moon who just recently died at the age of 92. Sun Myung Moon was born in 1920 to a family who followed the teachings of Confucios. His parents converted to Christianity when he was 10 and he was raised in the Presbyterian faith. When Moon was in his teens, he claims he was visited by Jesus. During this meeting, it is said that Jesus told him that Moon was to finish the work that Jesus had failed to do during his life. Moon was to fulfill the prophecies of the second coming by establishing the kingdom of God on earth. We will get into that more as we go, but basically Moon was informed that he was the second advent of the Messiah. Moon also claims that like Jesus, he too was tempted be Satan and overcame him. Moon then uses this victory as proof that he is the messiah. During the 1940s moon spoke out against communism, which didn't go over well in Korea. He found himself getting in much trouble with the authorities and this he compared to the sufferings that Christ had gone through. In the 50s, Moon started a small church, where he was referred to as Rev Moon. Not to long after that, Moon moved to Seoul and founded his church called the Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity (almost wore my keyboard out typing all that), otherwise known as the Unification Church.
