Transcripts from the segment on Peace Both Near and Far
He [Mordecai] sends it out to those who are both ‘near’ and ‘far’. Both near and far. Very interesting expression there, because that expression is going to come up again in the New Testament. Keep that in your head. Near and far. That is a direction quotation from Isaiah 57. I’ll read it to you. Isaiah 57:19 “Peace, peace, to the far and to the near,” says the LORD, and I will heal him. But the wicked are like the tossing sea; for it cannot be quiet, and its waters toss up mire and dirt. There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.” Now there are two connections between that verse and our study today. They are that expression ‘the far and the near’ and the word ‘peace’. You’ll find the word ‘peace’ is the very last word at the end of chapter 10, ‘He spoke peace to all the people.’ In Isaiah it says, ‘There’s no peace to the wicked.’ One of the things we have learned from the Book of Esther is that, here were the wicked, who had inspired together against the Lord and against his Anointed. People did not know that at that time. We know that from the perspective of now. When he conspired to kill all those Jews, he was conspiring to kill God’s Messiah as well. They conspire together. But there is no peace for the wicked. The wicked are like the troubled sea, that tosses up mire and dirt. “There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked. But at the end of the Book of Esther, that tossing sea is stilled for a moment. The people of God enjoy a measure of peace for a moment, by the grace of God and by God’s providence. But it is not the final peace.
