Romans 8:1-4 – Christ the God-Man Pays for Sin – Sermon Outline
Intro: Our sin, lawbreaking, is great, in that we sin greatly, and against a great and worthy lawgiver – God.
Need: The gulf between holy God and unholy man is infinite, unbridgeable by man, and God cannot die. The only solution is for God to become man, while remaining fully God, to pay for sin as a man, but not just as a mere man and creature, but the man who is Himself God in the flesh, Jesus Christ.
Theme: Only Christ, who is truly God and man, can pay for sin:
1. God is just, will not let sin go unpunished, and man is incapable of paying for his sin by his efforts. 2. God's punishment for sin is such that no mere creature could endure it. 3. God has provided a payment for sin in Christ, who is eternal God and righteous man. |
