The Bible has a lot to say about giving, including describing the marks of a godly giver. In this lesson, we continue examining the characteristics of a biblical giver. Looking at the story of the Widow's Mite in Mark 12, we see that the widow exhibits not only the praiseworthy trait of giving sacrificially, but we also see a courageous giver – giving despite what would've been an intimidating and embarrassing situation of giving so little right after the rich had dropped in their fat coins. Because she gives out of great love and faith for the Lord, Christ commends her to us.
Next, we turn to 2 Corinthians 8 to see how the Macedonians enthusiastically responded to Paul's request to help the saints in Jerusalem. In this passage, we see the godly characteristics of eagerness to give, giving worshipfully, abounding in their offerings, and giving proportionately or according to their ability or how God has blessed them. All this will lead to a full definition of what it means to give cheerfully.
