One of the most remarkable men in all of history, and especially in Biblical history was King David. God spoke of David as a “man after my own heart.” David sought after God, was obedient to God, spoke with God, was lead by God, was appointed King of Israel by God. We continue to explore the relationship that developed between David and King Saul shortly after David defeated Goliath, winning a great victory for King Saul. The exploits and acclaim received by David worked destructively against King Saul who came to fear David as a rival and sought to kill him as a threat to his throne and his honor. Saul's preoccupation with himself drove him away from God and destroyed the continuity of his throne. In this account we see the rising intensity of Saul's hatred for David. The remarkable loyalty of his friend, Jonathan, King Saul's son, is demonstrated in his preserving the life of David, even though as Crown Prince he stood to be replaced by David in succession to the throne. God's sovereignty in controlling human events is again demonstrated in wisdom and power, in the life of David, and that of His people, Israel.
