A second aspect of true discipleship is having a servant's heart. Paul explains what this means through the example of his own life. A servant becomes all things to all people and sacrifices himself for all people. A servant knows upon what to focus and because of his servant attitude, he is able to truly connect with the hearts of those he is seeking to reach for the Kingdom. He doesn't scorn or look down upon people, rather he becomes like them. He identifies with them, not focusing upon the externals, but focusing upon their hearts. In this way he loves and serves and it is real and sincere, not condescending and thus they grant him access to their hearts. Because he has their hearts, the glorious gospel message is able to flow from Christ's heart, through his heart, into their hearts. This is true discipleship and this is what it means to have a servant's heart. Paul said he did this so that he could win more for Christ.
