This expression, “filled with all the fullness of God” is a play on words in the Greek. And in this case, the wordplay comes across in the English. Filled with all the fullness. And though there is a certain artfulness to the expression, it is not just an example of rhetorical or linguistic flare; Paul has chosen a memorable way to express a most profound concept, a most profound reality concerning God and His people. It is a truth so profound and so glorious that to accept it as true, you must first believe firmly in an all powerful God who can accomplish it. It is a truth which expresses the very reason God has called you to Himself in Christ. And so we'll examine what it is to be filled with all the fullness of God, and Lord willing, our hearts will ring with the praise we find in Paul's doxology just following his prayer.
