As we begin our study of the gospel of John this morning, we find ourselves still in the middle of Chapter six. As I mentioned in prior sermons, the teachings of Jesus, especially in verses 35-65 of Chapter six, have been the source of controversy between Christian laymen, pastors, teachers, and theologians for centuries.
The major area of controversy seems to have its foundation in asking just one question: Is God absolutely and totally sovereign, or not?
Out of the incomprehensible depth of God's wisdom, love, mercy, and grace, did He choose (predestine) before creation, the people who would come to faith in Jesus Christ and be saved, or do people have the freedom of their will to choose or reject Him without any help from God?
