Paul leaves Athens, perhaps feeling discouraged after receiving a hostile response to his gospel message. Upon arriving in Corinth, he preaches to the Jews, but once again, his warnings are largely ignored.
Despite these setbacks, the Lord graciously encourages Paul in two significant ways: first, through the conversion of the ruler of the synagogue, and second, through a vision in which the Lord assures Paul that there are "many people" in Corinth whom He will call by grace.
Here, we encounter the doctrine of election. We see how the Lord, before the foundation of the world, purposed to save His people, how this salvation is secured, and how the Lord reveals His elect through the call of the gospel.
This message can offer clarity and comfort to those wrestling with the complexities of this challenging doctrine.
