Ezekiel 4:1-17; 5:1-17_New Heart,New Spirit.Four Judgments of God.The LORD instructed Ezekiel to draw a map of Jerusalem on either a clay tablet or tile (lebanah). He chose a time of day when the most people would be walking by his house. An adult sitting in the dirt playing a war game would naturally attract the attention of passersby, who in turn would soon spread the news of the prophet's strange behavior throughout the entire community. As he sat there on the ground, Ezekiel was to take some dirt and build mounds of siege works, or forts, all around the brick that represented Jerusalem. Then he was to build ramps of dirt up to the brick, use sticks and rocks to set up camps against it, and put in place the battering rams that would be used to break through the gates. Ezekiel was to put an iron pan between him and the brick. According to the LORD, the iron pan represented an iron wall between the prophet and the city. The prophet was the representative of God; therefore this was a picture of the iron (strong) barrier between God and the people because of their sins.He was to symbolically act out all four of the signs for 430 days so that the people could not miss God's warning of coming judgment. Ezekiel was giving the people a dramatic depiction of the judgment that lay right over the horizon unless they repented of their sins. Because of their sins, the people's hearts had become hard and stubborn against God.Therefore, they refused to listen to the Word of God when it was preached or taught. The symbolic meaning of the prophet's war game. Day after day for more than a year, the people saw the prophet showing God's hand of judgment falling upon their beloved capital.
