Have you ever experienced total darkness? On our honeymoon years ago, my wife and I visited the Luray Caverns in Virginia and our tour guide gave us a taste of total darkness. For in the midst of the cavern he turned out the lights-- and for a minute we were plunged into total darkness. We like the light. Darkness is spooky. And yet all of us at one time lived in total spiritual darkness. How did we get in such a predicament. We experience spiritual darkness by rejecting the light one has. God has revealed Himself in creation. The heavens declare the glory of God. And yet man has rejected the universal witness as to God's existence and essence-- and thus their understanding is darkened. They have eyes to see, but fail to see They suppress the truth in unrighteousness. But not only do they experience spiritual darkness through rejecting the light one has, but also through being blinded by Satan, the prince of darkness. He blinds our eyes so that we cannot see the glorious light of the gospel of Christ. He does whatever he can to keep us in the kingdom of darkness. The world is a dark, dark place spiritually. But it is to the dark, dark world that Jesus announces, 'I AM the Light of the World!"
