When the Lord shaped Peter in his mother’s womb, He crafted a courageous, take-charge, out-front kind of fellow. Those were his natural strengths. But natural strength often fails us when depended upon in spiritual warfare. Don’t you think? Peter had the natural bravery to wield a sword against a throng of soldiers, yet in doing so fought against providence. Peter had the natural strength to follow Christ when other disciples fled, but he followed from a distance. Peter had the natural fortitude to warm himself by the enemy’s fire, but in doing so walked into the very snare he’d been warned about. After the resurrection, and after Pentecost, Peter exchanged self-reliance for dependence upon His Master. May God give us grace to follow his example! As we live for Christ, let’s “do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies,” 1 Peter 4:11, “…then everything (we) do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ.”
