This Sunday we will study Acts 4:32-5:11. Even after the beginnings of persecution, Luke records for us the unity in the church. The specific example that he relates is how they treat their possessions. They are not focused on the things of this world, so they are able to hold their possessions in common. We also see an example of a man who fulfills this. Barnabas sells land and gives it to the church. We will find through the rest of Acts, just how much God uses this man to spread the gospel to the nations. But there is also another example. The example of Ananias and Sapphira. They want to appear to be doing this without having the substance of doing it. They wanted the applause of man rather than the approval of God. We will not hear further about them in Acts, because God kills them on the spot. Fear should fall upon us as it did with as many as heard in those days because God has not changed. He is still serious about sin and about lying to the Holy Spirit. As a church, for us to have one accord requires keeping our focus on God which is the source of unity rather than man.
