The Bible indicates in 1 Sam 8 that the Israelites wanted a King.
The people of Israel wanted to be like the other nations around them.
The King that was chosen was Saul.
Saul was the people’s choice so God gave him to the people for King but David was God’s choice.
Saul disobeyed the Lord’s command in 1 Sam 15. Saul was to kill all the Amalekites but he kept spoils of war and the King was allowed to live.
Saul was the peoples choice but David was God’s choice.
As a result of Saul’s disobedience God chose a new King to rule over Israel.
God’s choice of David for King would have been an unlikely one for others.
It is interesting that God often chooses unlikely candidates.
We learn from David’s life that God sees what man cannot see.
David wasn’t given instant rule the moment he was anointed by Jesse. He continued to be faithful to his father’s work until God placed him on the throne.
Like David we need to be faithful in the work that God has given to us.
One day we will see the throne where the descendant of David will reign forever and we also will reign with Him.
